NYS Championships Cancelled, Races on Cayuga Lake instead
May 2, 2011
The Bomber’s were upset to hear that the NYS Championships had to be canceled this past weekend due to extremely high water levels at Whitney Point. The water levels rose above the launch area and even the parking lot where trailers normally park, thus making launching nearly impossible. The team was disappointed to lose this racing opportunity but moved forward with a plan B and invited crews to come and race at Ithaca on Sunday. Ithaca held races on Cayuga Lake for the first time, hosting Army, Marist, RIT, Hobart and Bighamton. The WV8, MV8, M2V8, WN8 & MN8 all raced on the lake course while the W2V8, WV4 & MV4 all raced on the inlet. There was good racing all around and the day was ended with an award ceremony for “state championships.” Plates were awarded to the top 3 finishers in each race as well as a team points trophy, which the Bomber’s were happy to win! The plates and trophies were made by men’s captain Aaron Atwater and women’s captain Amy Gefell. These awards were a nice touch to an impromptu day of racing!
The crew prepares now to head into the championship season, with ECACs being held in Worcester, MA this coming weekend. The Bombers will be traveling Saturday to practice on the course and will be racing on Sunday. This is an important event for IC Crew and the team is gearing up for an intense week of training before hitting the road. We hope to see you in Worcester for what is sure to be some great racing!
