Ithaca Crew Heads into Winter Training!

After a great Fall Season for Ithaca College Crew, both the Men’s and Women’s Team’s are headed indoors to participate in Winter Training before heading back out on the water in the Spring! The thought or even sound of the words “Winter Training” does not sit well with most athletes. The long erg workouts, runs in the frigid Ithaca temperatures and rigorous sessions in the weight room produce thoughts of painful winter training workouts in the past. Even though Winter Training may not be the most enjoyable aspect of rowing, it is absolutely necessary. Our competition is doing the same thing. Winter Training is all about fighting for every inch in order to surpass the competition in order to beat them on the water come Spring! Ithaca Crew has it’s goals set very high for this Spring Season, so it is going to be very important that athletes stay relentless and committed during workouts, with Medals and Betting Shirts in mind.

The Ithaca Men’s Team had a very successful Fall Season overall, which created some great momentum going into the Winter Season. Winning medals at every race with the exception of the Head of the Charles showed great competition and depth amongst all boats, both Varsity and Novice! The Spring Schedule is a tough one, racing teams early on such as Hobart, Michigan, Trinity and Cornell, however the Men’s Team is up for the challenge. They have their sights set on a State Championship and ECAC Medals, so competing with the top competition will be necessary to achieve those goals!

The Women’s Team also has their goals set high for the Spring Season. With the Sculling Team only competing in the Fall, all of the Sculling Athletes will be competing on the Women’s Varsity Sweep Team in the Spring. This will add even more depth to the Women’s Team for the Spring! With a 10th place finish at the Head of the Charles, they know they are right in the thick of things. They have their eyes on a State Championship and Medals at ECAC’s as well, however the bigger picture is to make it to the NCAA Championships! After not qualifying for them last year, the fire and drive is bigger than ever, and they have the passion to work harder than ever to get there this year.

Start to make plans to come and support Ithaca College Crew through their Spring campaign to championship glory! Thank you for supporting us through a very successful Fall, and we look forward to getting back out on the water after a rigorous Winter Training!
