Head of the Charles, October 18th, 2015

This year it will be the women competing at the Head of the Charles in the Collegiate Women’s eight.  They will be racing at 3:31P PM on Sunday, October 18th.  In addition to our lone collegiate entry, coach Beth Greene ’00 will be teaming up with Lisa Russell ’10 to compete in the Champ double on Saturday at 3:42 PM.  Lisa is currently training at Riverside boat club.

ITHACA COLLEGE CREW – RACE ITINERARY 

Race;    10/17-18/2015 – leaving Friday 10/16

Location;  Head-of-the-Charles, Boston.

Departure Time – location  Meet cars on Friday at A & E Center at 7:00 am.  Drive directly to race course, rig shell and row on the course.  Rig and row; 2-5:00 pm.  Shell will be on the Cornell trailer.

Directions to Race Course; To FALS (finish area launch site) – Route 79 east to route 206 east to I-88 east to I-90 east (becomes Mass Turnpike) to exit 18 (Cambridge, on the left).   Follow signs to Cambridge. Stay straight through several traffic lights and turn left on Soldiers Field Road. Do not cross the river.  Proceed on Soldiers Field Road (fast-pace traffic) past the football stadium on left, bearing left at the following traffic light intersection, river on right, eventually FALS will be on the right.  It would be helpful to consult a parking map or course map to assist with directions.*

  • Friday, 10/16 rig and practice row 2-5pm.
  • Saturday, 10/17. Women’s champ 2x races at 3:42pm
  • Sunday, 10/18. Women collegiate 8 race at 3:31pm.  Be at the shell by 1:45.  Ready to launch by 2:30pm.

Race notes: Race is 4.8K.  Huge crowds, 200,000+ spectators, be on time and plan for congestion.                     

Other Information: Don’t forget your uniform.      Bring sleeping bags, pillows, other bedding.  BE PREPARED FOR BAD WEATHER.  BRING A FULL WATER BOTTLE.  Plan extra time to get around.  There is limited parking near FALS so follow posted parking instructions.  Bring extra money for snacks and souvenirs (major crew shopping!!).

Return to Ithaca: Derig immediately after racing and load trailer. Cars will depart for Ithaca at 5:15 pm.  Estimated return to Ithaca by 12 midnight on Sunday, 10/18

Daily outline;

Friday, leave Ithaca, travel to site, practice, travel to overnight accommodations.

Saturday, return to race course about 10am, go for a team run.  There will be time for souvenir shopping and event sight-seeing.  Return to overnight accommodations at 6pm.

Sunday, return to race course about 12 noon.  All athletes will help de-rig and load at 4:00pm.  Depart for home by 5pm.
