Seven Sisters Sculling


 Race;   10/9/2016      Seven Sisters Regatta – women’s sculling

 Location;   UMass Boathouse, Northampton, MA

Participating schools:   UMass (host), Tufts, Dartmouth.

Departure Time/ Location    Meet the bus at A & E Center, north side loading dock, Sat 10/8 at 4:45pm. Depart at 5:00pm.  Bus will go directly to hotel, & head to dinner at a local diner after a quick check-in.  Please plan your lunch & snacks as necessary to accommodate your race preparation given the late hour of this dinner.

Directions to hotel; – From Ithaca take route 79 east, to route 206 east to I-88 east to I-90 (thruway), exit for Albany continuing on I-90 east, proceed to exit 10,hotel is right off the exit. 

To race site; Continue east on I-90, onto Mass Pike, take exit 4 onto I-91 north.  Proceed on I-91 to exit 19.  At the end of the ramp, turn right onto Bridge St./Rte. 9.  The boathouse driveway is on the right immediately after the bridge.

***BUS NOTE*** The turn into the boathouse parking lot is very tight.  The preferred way to make the turn is to pass the entrance to the parking lot (Sportsman’s Marina) & use the next right, Old Bay Rd., to double back onto Rte 9.  You can then make a much more reasonable left turn into the Sportsman’s Marina Lot & follow the driveway to the UMass Boathouse.

Time line

Saturday, 10/8/16

4:45pm – Meet at the Ithaca College A & E Center, north side loading dock

(Follow signs for lower quads/ garden apts.)

5:00pm – Drive directly to hotel.   Contact – Nancy Campbell   518-479-3217

Comfort Inn & Suites, East Greenbush – Albany, 99 Miller Road, Castleton, NY  12033

8:00 pm – Hotel check-in, & quick departure for East Greenbush Diner (about 1 mi from hotel)

Sunday/Race Schedule;

6:00 am – Breakfast at Hotel.

6:30 am – Bus departs for course.

8:00 am – Arrive at race course, rig shells.

8:45am – regatta meeting.

9:00am – launch for AM races.

11-12 –    break

12pm –     Launch for PM races.

3:00pm – Load bus following regatta wrap-up meeting.

ETA Ithaca, 8pm.

Race notes:  Athletes will row two 5k head races.  Spectators can view the last 750m of the course from a bridge that is a short walk from the boathouse parking lot.   The path to the bridge is on the opposite side of Rte9/Bridge St from the boathouse.

Other Information:    Please bring a full, re-usable water bottle.  We are trying to get away from disposable bottles.  Bring rain gear and clothes to stay warm between races.  This may mean changing into a 2nd set of race gear or at least taking off your wet uniform between races.  There is a google doc where parents can sign up to provide tent snacks/ lunch items for between & after races.
