Novice Coaches Needed for Fall 2017

Ithaca College Crew is on the hunt for both a novice men’s and a novice women’s coach. The position is part-time and not benefit eligible.  The salary is around $7,000 paid over 9 weeks in the fall season and 10 weeks in the spring season.  This is a great opportunity for a young coach that is looking to build experience, or for someone that loves rowing and is available from 4-7 PM weekdays and Saturday mornings.  Here is the link to the job posting.  The Men’s position is currently posted, the women’s position should show up by 8/8/2017.  Please pass on to anyone that you think might be interested!!

Rowing Timeline to be added to the CWFT

The Cayuga Waterfront Trail Initiative, a program of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is now in the process of completing an interpretive panel on the history of competitive rowing in Ithaca.  It is one of Ithaca’s great and less-known sporting stories describing the history, successes, and characters involved in rowing at Cornell University, Ithaca College and the Cascadilla Boat Club.   We are planning to complete the final edits on the panel by mid-August for fabrication and installation by September 30 at the Schwartz Cup Regatta.

Here is a link to view the final draft of the panel (http://cayugawaterfronttrail.com/Rowing-Panel).  We will be making many suggested edits and incorporating high-resolution pictures where needed during the next three weeks.

So far we have raised $6,000 and we are asking you to make a contribution to help us reach our $10,000 goal.  You can donate through the Crowdrise platform (www.crowdrise.com/boathouse-rowing-panel) or make a contribution by check or credit card to the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce Foundation, 904 East Shore Drive, Ithaca, NY  14850.

Thank you so much for supporting this effort and do feel free to call or email me directly if you have any questions about the project.

PS: In case you are wondering, here’s why the $10,000 goal?   The sign is 6’ long – it’s a big story and a long one with a nearly 150 year timeline.

The metal supporting stand, stainless steel oar sculpture and concrete footer cost $5,000.  The sign itself costs $1,500 to fabricate. Graphic design, research and writing, and project installation cost $3,500.   We believe the importance of the story warrants the expense and hope that you agree!
