Head of the Fish, Freeman Cup Results, Cornell Autumn Classic schedule

Greetings Ithaca Crew Alumni, Parents and Friends!

This past weekend was full of adventure for the Ithaca Crews and Scullers! The Saturday racing was at the Head of the Fish, at Lake Saratoga, where the weather was threatening due to wind and rain. The early races ran on schedule, with excellent results for the Womens Scullers and Mens Fours. Ithaca Scullers placed second, fifth, ninth, 12th, and 13th out of 16 in the Womens Collegiate Single event. The Women’s Doubles event was won by Ithaca, with our B entry taking third, and C entry taking 15th out of 17 entries. The Men’s Lightweight Four was second out of 5, and the Men’s Open Four placed fifth out of 36. Ithaca was awarded medals in all four events! Unfortunately, following the mens fours events, conditions proved too hazardous, and the remaining events were canceled for the day, which included our two mens eights and womens four.

The crews returned to Ithaca and prepared for the 45th annual Freeman Cup Fall Intrasquad race Sunday Morning. Conditions were sprinkly but relatively calm for the length-of-the-inlet head race, which this year included 9 eights of mixed boatings, including varsity and novice, men and women, and scullers. The race provided special excitement for shell #2, which unfortunately lost a dispute with the abutment on the State Street bridge, taking two rowers out of action for the remainder of their race and direct return to the docks (both recovered promptly in the warm boathouse). There was minor damage to the shell (a rigger which has been repaired), and two oars. Members of the winning Feitner’s Ride eight included coxswain Zoe Glasgow, captain and stroke Sierra Keat, Colin McCarthy, Lucas Greenway, Jade Hazzard, Kelsey Lavin, Autumn Michels, Nicola Vigliotti, and bow Spencer Cadley.

This week the crews and scullers are at home Saturday morning for the Cornell Autumn Classic, which will include all the Cornell mens and womens crews, Ithaca, Syracuse, Hobart, and Mercyhurst. There will be two inlet head races, with small boats racing starting at 9:45, followed with reconfiguring into large boats to race at 11am. For Saturday’s racing, there will be no spectator parking at the Boathouses. Visitors/spectators should check the Visiting Teams link above on the blog website for parking/viewing directions.
