ITHACA COLLEGE CREW – RACE ITINERARY

Race;  10/18-19/2014 – leaving Friday 10/17

Location; Head-of-the-Charles, Boston.

Participating schools:  too many to count

Participating athletes:  Men’s & Women’s varsity crew; travel party = 18 athletes + 2 coaches.

Departure Time – location  Meet vans on Friday at A & E Center at 9:00 am.  Drive directly to race course, rig shell and row on the course.  Rig and row; 3-6:00 pm.  Shells will be on the Cornell trailer.

Directions to Race Course; To FALS (finish area launch site) – Route 79 east to route 206 east to I-88 east to I-90 east (becomes Mass Turnpike) to exit 18 (Cambridge, on the left).   Follow signs to Cambridge. Stay straight through several traffic lights and turn left on Soldiers Field Road. Do not cross the river.  Proceed on Soldiers Field Road (fast-pace traffic) past the football stadium on left, bearing left at the following traffic light intersection, river on right, eventually FALS will be on the right.  It would be helpful to consult a parking map or course map to assist with directions.*

  • Friday, 10/17 rig and practice row 3-6pm.  Sunday racers practice first.  Saturday racers practice immediately after.
  • Saturday, 10/18. Women alumni race at 12:39.  Be at shell by 11am.  Ready to launch by 11:40 Sunday, 10/19.  Men collegiate 8 race at 2:37  Be at shell by 1pm.  Ready to launch by 1:40.  Women collegiate 8 race at 2:54pm.  Be at the shell by 1:15.  Ready to launch by 2pm.

Race notes  Race is 5K.  Huge crowds, 200,000+ spectators, be on time and plan for congestion.                

Other Information:  Don’t forget your uniform.  Bring sleeping bags, pillows, other bedding.  BE PREPARED FOR BAD WEATHER.  BRING A FULL WATER BOTTLE.  Plan extra time to get around.  There is limited parking near FALS so follow posted parking instructions.  Bring extra money for snacks and souvenirs (major crew shopping!!).

Daily outline;

Friday, leave Ithaca, travel to site, practice, travel to overnight accommodations.

Saturday, return to race course about 10am, some will race, others will go for a team run.  There will be time for souvenir shopping and event sight-seeing.  Men’s team has a dinner reservation at 4:15 pm with the Enright family.  Return to overnight accommodations at 6pm.

Sunday, return to race course about 12 noon.  Some will race, others will have off-time.  All athletes will help de-rig and load at 3:30pm.  Depart for home by 4:30pm.

ETA Ithaca College – 11:30 pm.
